How to Choose a Kimono or Beach Cover-Up

Choose a kimono or cover-up by comparing coverage, length, fit and the details of the individual item. A style name alone does not tell you its fabric, opacity or size.

Start with how you want to wear it

For layering over a dress or a top and pants, compare the sleeve shape and overall length with the outfit underneath. For a beach cover-up, check the product photographs and description for coverage and fastening. A cover-up is not swimwear.

Compare short and long styles

A shorter layer changes where an outfit ends at the hip or thigh; a longer robe gives a different silhouette. Use the garment length in the product chart and compare it with a similar piece you own. Model photographs alone cannot predict where a garment will fall on you.

Check the fit and fastening

• Look for garment measurements, especially chest, shoulder, sleeve and length.
• Check whether the style is open-front, tied or fastened, and whether a belt is included.
• Consider your preferred room for layering. “One size” does not mean every body size.

Read material and care details

Do not assume that every kimono is cotton, silk, sheer or handmade. Materials and construction differ by item. Follow the product's care information and contact us if a detail you need is missing.
